My mom told me that the first thing she did when the doctors handed me to her was count my toes. Weird, huh? But I think these pictures explain it all. These are images of my grandfather's feet at the tender age of 91. Now, they may not be the prettiest and most of these are in black & white b/c after spending 9 decades on two limbs, hell, yours might not look so great either. Notice the toe next to his big toe. It's actually two toes coming out of the same root. My papa has 6 toes on his right foot. For some reason I never noticed, though I always heard the story, until last summer when he was in town and we had just gone swimming in my parents' pool.
